FATAL AIR DIVE

NEW ZEALANDER KILLED IN SOLENT. DURING TORPEDO-DROPPING EXERCISES. (Recd This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, August 10. Acting Pilot-Officer R. A. Robertson, son of Mrs A. G. Robertson, of Stratford, New Zealand, was killed when an Air Force machine in which he was participating in torpedo-dropping exercises, crashed into the Solent. Mr Robertson was flying solo information with two others from the Royal Air Force station at Gosport. The three machines dived in formation and two pulled out, Mr Robertson’s machine crashing, after the release of a torpedo. The body has been recovered.
