JOHNSONVILLE SALE. A BRIGHTER TONE EVIDENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. At the Johnsonville sale yesterday a brighter tone was evident in the beef section, and prices rdse about 10s to 15s nd a head for bullocks, and 15s to 20s a head for cows. Extra heavy bullocks were scarce, only one pen coming forward. These sold under strong competition up to £l5 15s, equivalent to 33s a 1001 b. Medium-weight well-fin-ished cattle made up to £l4, or about 35s a 1001 b. Extra heavy cows, about 7501 b., made £9 10s to £lO, lighter cows ipaking corresponding prices, averaging about 27s a 1001 b., unfinished and plain at about 23s 6d. No extra heavy wethers came forward, but extra prime Southdown ‘sheep made 27S 6d to 28s 6d, and average well-finished wethers making about 26s to 27. Very heavy ewes macfe 225, good weight sheep 20s, and lighter down to 15s. Some very prime hoggets came to hand, and strong competition was responsible for the good price of 24s for top line. Good heavy hoggets made 20s to 21s, lighter sorts down to 18s.
MASTERTON SALE FAT SHEEP HARD TO QUIT}. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—A fair yarding of sheep and cattle came forward at our weekly sale yesterday and was offered to a fair attendance. Fat sheep were hard to quit at late rates w’hile other sorts sold on a par with ruling prices. Cattle met with quite a good sale. We give hereunder the range of prices realised: — Sheep: Fat wethers, 25s to 26s 6d; fat ewes, 16s, 17s to 18s 9d; store ewes, 12s 6d to 14s; b.f. 2-ths., to 17s 9d; wr. hoggets, to 15s 6d. Cattle: Fat cows, £4 10s to £5; vealers, to £3 15s; Jersey steers, to £3; store cows, to £2 10s. Pigs: Weaners, 16s to 18s; slips, 20s to 21s 6d. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING CO. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report:—We offered a good entry of fat sheep, small penning of store sheep and a good yarding of fat cattle to the usual attendance. Fat sheep were in over supply and prices receded to the level of those ruling a fortnight ago. The rough weather had a rather depressing effect on the store sheep market. Fat cattle sold readily at late rates.'. The following are some of ' our realisations: —Fat wethers, 23s to 24s 9d; fat maiden ewes, 225; b.f. 2-ths., 245; fat ewes, 16s Id to 18s; w.f. wether, lambs, 16s; fat heifers, £G 10s to £8; fat station 'cows, £6 17s 6d to £7 10s; fat cows ex-dairy, £4 10s to £5 ss; vealers, £3; porkers, 37s to £2 ss; weaner pigs,- 21s 6d to 235.
N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly sale yesterday when they had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle which were submitted to a fair attendance. Prices for all stock remained at late, rates, and they had a total clearance as follows: — Fat sheep: Ewes, 15s to 16s Id; fat hoggets (good), 22s 9d; do. (fair), 18s lOd to 19s 3d. Store sheep: Med. wether hoggets, 14s 3d, 14s 4d to 14s 9d; small do., 8s 6d to 10s 6d; b.f. hoggets, 16s 3d; small ewe hoggets, 14s 4d. Cattle: Heifer and calf, £1 10s; fat Jersey cows, £4 to £5 Is.
DALGETY & CO. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale as follows: —A medium entry of all classes of sheep came forward, and in spite of the adverse weather conditions there was a good attendance of buyers. The fat sheep and the hoggets yarded were not of good quality and in both these sections prices remained firm on our last week’s report. There was a strong demand for ewes showing up well in lamb, and a particular attractive pen of 6-yr. ewes offered on account ( of D. MacPiae, “Glensheil,” after spirited competition fell to a bid of 30s Id. We report a total clearance as follows: — Heavy fat ewes, 18s 6d; light fat ewes, 14s; 6-yr. ewes, r.w. S.D. ram, 30s Id; medium b.f. hoggets, 13s Id to 13s 9d; cull m.a. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 12s to 12s 6d; medium w.f.w. hoggets, 13s 7d to 14s 2d.
