EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. Robertson, M.P., wrote to the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council advising that Cabinet had approved the acceptance of P. A. Petersen’s tender for. the erection of four single-house units. Cr. Page considered it • was unfortunate that the Housing Department had decided to erect the houses on the site selected. With much cheap land available it'did not seem reasonable to. build four houses on three-quarters of an acre. He thought if the Department were asked to reconsider its plans it might do so. The Mayor stated that he could not understand the attitude of the Department. Representations had been made to the Department on the subject but he did not think it would change its decision. In connection with the proposed alterations to the building bylaws the following resolution was passed:— Variations of Provisions of Bylaw in Cases of New Methods of Construction. —The council may allow the adoption of any new method of building construction or the use of any new material, notwithstanding .that such method of construction or material is not strictly in accordance with the provisions of this part of this bylaw. Cr. Simmers submitted a report on the conference between the Eketahuna County Council and the Borough Cemetery Committee. He said that the county had submitted various proposals by which the- borough might improve its cemetery funds and these he asked the council to consider. It was eventually decided to inform the County Council that their proposals were not acceptable. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs A. Rowden and their son, Mr J. Rowden, will leave for Australia next week. They will visit Sydney, Melbourne, Ballarat and other places. They expect to be absent over two
