’ WIN FOR GOLF CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) Carterton had a comfortable win over Greytown winning by ten games to four, and halving two. The individual results are as follow (Carter'ton being mentioned first in each instance) :— A team at Taratahi: R. Goodwin all square with J. C. Feast; H. Dudson beat H. E. Webster; R. Fisher lost to H. R. Feast; B. Booth beat R. Ingley; G. S. George all square with Howard Feast; D. Taylor beat E. Maddison; W. J. C. Wells lost to Eric Feast; J. Steel beat T. Gold. B team at Greytown: Brown beat Stunnel; Hart beat Rhodes; Whitburn lost to McLeod; Reynolds beat Tate; Colson lost to Webster; Smart beat Oakey; Father Heavey beat Peterson; Steel beat Wilson. PERSONAL. Mr Frank Brazendale, youngest son of Mr and Mrs F. Brazendale, Matarawa, has joined the New Zealand Police Force, and will enter Mount Cook Barracks, Wellington, this week for a training course.
Mr C. J. Fisher, of Costley Street, Carterton, has received an appointment with a Wellington mercantile firm, and will be located, in the Khandallah district. STORMY WEATHER. Yesterday in Carterton the morning commenced with a keen wind blowing which became milder during the day. In the evening a’ strong north-wester-ly wind increased to practically gale force, which aroused memories of the big gale experienced in 1934, but, of course, did not reach the force of that devastating storm. The wind was accompanied by rain which came down heavily for some time. About midnight the wind increased in force, but during the early morning died down, and was followed by heavy rain which continued . until about daylight. This morning the wind changed to the south, with occasional rainfall. PLUNKET SOCIETY At the monthly meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society there were present Mesdames W. J. C. Wells, C. C. Callender, N. R. Armstrong, J. Steel, H. B. Keenan, A. Phillpotts, V. Robinson and the secretary (Mrs H. M. B. Trapp). An apology for absence was received from Mrs J. B. Lawrence. The Nurse’s report for July was as follows: —New cases, 3; breastfed, 2; expectant mother, 1. Visits to homes: new cases, 4; old cases, 64. Visits to rooms: adults, 86; babies, 72; older children, 12. Test scales lent once Telephone calls, 12. Car mileage, 444 miles. A circular letter'was received from the President of the Dominion Council notifying that instructions had been sent out to all nurses concerning certain modifications of the Society’s artificial feeding. These modifications had been recommended by the Medical Advisory Board in conjunction with other medical men particularly interested in infant feeding, following the recent public criticism of the artificial feeding system advocated by the Society. Dr Williams, acting-Medical Adviser to the Council, had approved of these modifications being immediately adopted, and they do not in any way depart from the fundamental principles laid down by the late Sir Truby King. WAR VETERAN’S DEATH The death occurred at 8 o’clock this morning _at his residence, Richmond Road, Carterton, of an esteemed South African war veteran, Mr John Boyd, more popularly known as “Scotty” Boyd. He was also a veteran of the Great War, having served in the Royal Army Service Corps. The late Mr Boyd, who is survived by his widow and a daughter, had resided in Carterton for some time, and previous to that, was caretaker of the Soldiers’ Club in Masterton. The late Mr Boyd, who was 74 years of age, is also survived by two grandchildren (Miss Betty Sewell and Mr John Sewell). A daughter (Mrs Sewell) died about seven years ago. The funeral will take place on Friday, leaving the residence at 1.30 p.m. for the Clareville Cemetery.
