EXCELLENT CONCERT
ST. MATTHEW’S GIRLS’ CLUB. THREE PLAYS PRESENTED. In view of the unfavourable weather conditions the attendance at the annual concert at St Matthew’s Girls’ Club, held last night in the Parish Hall, was a good reflection of the popularity of the club’s annual effort. The audience was most appreciative of the programme presented, and ■ the club’s reputation was further enhanced by the excellent standard attained. Two farces and a period play gave opportunity for fine dramatic work, the dancing pupils of Miss Holmwood gave appreciated work,'and Miss E. Engstrom sang sweetly. The concerted item, “A Cavalcade of Empire,” was finely done. All parts of the Empire were depicted in costume and songs from each part sung. The scene worked to a striking climax with the building up of the Empire’s flag. In the course of the evening the Vicar, the Rev. E. J. Rich, congratulated the club on the excellence of its concert and thanked members for their great work. The whole concert was presented under the direction of Mrs Rich. Miss D. Kemp was accompaniste for the concerted item. The programme was as follows: — Play, “At Cross Purposes:” Deborah, Miss B. Coleman; Priscilla, Miss I. Vincent; Martha, Miss D. Kemp; Girl, Miss E.
