YANGTSE FIGHTING
CLAIMS BY BOTH SIDES OPERATIONS MUCH HINDERED FLOOD (Recd This Day, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. The “Times’s” Shanghai correspondent says the Japanese claim that they have captured strong defences on the south bank of the Yangtse River near Shaho. The Chinese claim that they have reoccupied Hwangmei, while maintaining pressure at Susung. Floods increasingly threaten the operations of both sides.
