« LANSDOWNE LINKS. VISITED BY OLD PLAYER. (Notes by “Cleek.”) A few days ago I had the pleasure of meeting a golfer who played on the Masterton Golf Links, Lansdowne, many years past. This golfer was a member before the club had acquired the extra 40 acres of land. I had a round with him and he was delighted with the course, and the new up-to-date club house. He made special reference to the excellent drainage which had been effected on the course. Many of the holes he played years ago were very wet, and he expressed astonishment x at the dryness of those particular holes, especialy as he knew the formation of the land and the subsoil. He also expressed the opinion that when the drainage system, now being carried out by the club, was completed, the Lansdowne links would in winter be as dry as any golf course in the province. The lay-out of the course was, in his opinion, first class. He was, however, disappointed that the 13th hole, known to him and the older golfers as “Galway’s Fancy,” had been changed to “Double Crossing.” At this particular hole he remembered many varied experiences, not only ’by himself but the others players, and in chatting to the older players “Galway’s Fancy” was always referred to. Hq hopes, at some future" date, to have another round when the club has completed its excellent drainage scheme.
