(“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club there were present, Messrs J. W. Card, A. C. Pearce, W. Howard Booth, Ray Donald, H. Lawson, R. A. Donald, R. N. Barton, C. J. Nix. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Q. Donald, D. Cameron, D. C. Collins, D. H. S. Riddiford. Mr J. W. Card was voted to the chair. Receipts since the last meeting amounted to £l7 17s 2d. An application for the renewal of a trainer’s licence for L. W. Lambess was recommended. One new member was elected. GOVERNMENT HOUSING SCHEME. . The Government has purchased a section of land in Birdwood Street, opposite the Anzac Club, and adjacent to the Railway Station, comprising a littie over an acre, and formerly occupied by the late Mr Sam Cundy, for the purpose of erecting thereon four houses. BOY SCOUTS’ MEETING. The annual meeting of the Featherston Scout Committee was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday night. The Rev R. S. Keenan presided over a fair attendance of members. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr A. T. Cook; committee, Mesdames Saunders, J. Halpin, Waite, H. Clark, Houston, A. W. Edwards, Wendon, W. A. Hodder, W. Fellingham, Messrs K. McKenzie, H. Clark, A. W. Hodder, A. C. Pearce, D. C. Collins, D. C. Kibblewhite, J. W. Fellingham, the Rev R. S. Keenan and the Rev J. T. Holland. A vote of thanks was passed to the Wairarapa Racing Club for the use of the room for meetings during the year. The Scoutmaster’s report stated inter alia: —Since the last annual meeting 5 Scouts have left Featherston, and 7 have joined the troop, two coming up from the Wolf Cub pack. The membership now stands at 2 officers and 23 boys. Twelve of the boys are second class Scouts, 7 tenderfeet, and 4 recruits. The average attendance is very good, with the exception of 2 boys who live a long way from town. Although their attendance is not expected during the winter months I hope they are preparing for their tests at home. At present I am concentrating on the second class Scouts in order to put them through their first class tests. I am also watching the progress of the tenderfeet and recruits. I have been handicapped through the loss of A. S. M. David Clark who has left Featherston to take up work in New Plymouth. However our late Scoutmaster, Mr Phil Clark, has returned to Featherston and his assistance has been very acceptable. Although he is unable to take over full responsibility of the troop, his services are very valuable to me, and I would suggest that he be given an official position in the troop. Two present members and two ex-members of the troop are going to the Sydney Jam. boree at the end of the year, so the troop will be well represented at the gathering. The New .Zealand World' Jamboree to be held at Heretaunga in 1940 will provide the opportunity for others who are unable to make the lydney trip to attend one of the Scout Jamborees.—J. T. HALPIN, Troop Scoutmaster. FIRE BRIGADE BALL. Arrangements have been finalised for the Fire Brigade Ball which is to be held on Monday. The function promises to be a great Success.
