The first event of National Week, the Metropolitan Trots, are being held today in sunny weather and with a large attendance, marking the opening of the 1938-39 trotting season. Won by two length with the third horse a similar distance away. Time, 3.57 1-5. ADVANCE HANDICAP, 1J miles. 2/1 Sandusky, scr (Smith) 1 1/3 Donor, scr (M. Holmes) 2 9/11 Heather Queen, scr (Leggett) 3 Scr —Fremont, Gold Salute,. Racketeer, Southern Chief, Philario. Won by a length, with Heather Queen three lengths further back. Time, 3.11 2-5. Sandusky and Cavan Chief were coupled on the totalisator. AUGUST HANDICAP, 2 miles. 5/4 Reporter, 36yds (McGirr) 1 2/1 Blair Athol, 12yds (S. A. WHATATUTU HANDICAP, 1 mile. 1 Flying Comedy, 9.2 (Callahan) .... 1 5 Ruinette, 9.3 2 4 Quaint, 8.7 3 Scr —Gay Mimic, Hinepit, Reay Bridge. Flying Comedy won by a length, with Quaint three-quarters of a length away. Time, 2.3 2-5.' Won by three lengths. Small Boy was two lengths behind Minnow. Time 2.37 3-5.
