THE REGENT
“WELLS FARGO.” One of the most brilliant periods in history—the opening of the Wells Fargo trail between St. Louis and San Francisco, America’s “Lifeline of Empire,” forms the powerful background for Paramount’s “Wells Fargo,” the romance with Joel McCrea and Frances Dee which will open tonight at the Regent Theatre. Patterned conscientiously after the actual events, “Wells Fargo” covers twenty years of history in bold and heroic strokes. It was directed by Frank Lloyd from an original story by Stuart N. Lake. The magic of the motion picture camera brings back to life some of the most stirring and colourful days in history in “Wells Fargo.” The romance is built around the family fortunes of McCrea and Miss Dee, a pioneer Western family, from the time the first pony express rider carried his bag of precious mail out of St. Louis for the remote mining camps of the high sierras, and ends with the close of the War between the States. Bob Burns, Lloyd Nolan, Henry O’Neill, Porter Hall, Robert Cummings and Ralph Morgan are in the supporting cast which numbers over two thousand.
