“THE CINGALEE”
“The Cingalee,” a charming musical comedy which is to be staged by the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society in the Opera House on Saturday, August 13 is now thoroughly rehearsed by the Society. The story is taken as its setting on a tea plantation in Kandy, Ceylon, and. most of the company appear in native dress of that country. Most of the principles are English people either in charge of the plantation or visitors. One Chambuddy Ram, a Native Prince Who has qualified in England as a solicitor, supplies the humour in the opera besides having to play an important part in the plot. The vocal work is excellent in chorus, duets, sextettes and solos, and this, supported by a first-class orchestra, is up to the high standard usual in this society. The box plan will open next Tuesday at 8.30 a.m. at the Arts and Crafts.
