HOUSEHOLD HINTS
There is no need to boil tea-cloths and dish-cloths. When washing them, add a tablespoonful of ammonia to the hot water, and it will take all the grease out. There is no need to re-lay a fire when it has gone out. Instead, light a wax taper and hold it until it burns down for about one inch, then push it into the centre of the wood and coals until the taper is pushed completely in without putting the lighted end out. If you are requiring a toothglass holder in the bathroom, just buy a large wooden curtain ring and a long screw. Screwe the ring on to the wall and paint with enamel. Only half the usual amount of icing sugar need be used if it is mixed with thin cream instead of water or milk. The icing sugar will have a richer flavour, and also will not crack when cut. A lumpy sauce can be made quite smooth by whisking it quickly with an egg-whisk or stirring it and then reheating carefully.
