WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB
REPORT OF PAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES.
PROFIT-OF NEARLY £7OO RECORDED.
The annual report of the Wairarapa Racing Club for the past year states: — “Considering the weather conditions the club was reasonably successful at both the New Year and Easter meetings. The response from owners and trainers at the Easter meeting fully justified the actions of your stewards in still further increasing the stakes. The year commenced with a credit balance of £491 9s 9d in the current account, and £2015 10s 9d in the Post Office Savings Bank, and ended with a credit of £153 14s 6d at the Bank of New Zealand and £2074 5s lOd on deposit in the Savings Bank. The sum of £ll2O 17s 7d were expended in buildings and improvements. After writing off £llO6 17s for depreciation, the revenue account shows a profit of £698 16s 5d for the year. The buildings, plant and grounds are in good order. The road leading into the course is to receive further attention, more of the centre'course ploughed and general improvements to the footpaths and flower beds. It is with regret we record the deaths of Messrs Hugh Morison and William Benton. The late
Mr Morison was elected a steward on August 23, 1894, and vice-president in 1930. At the last annual meeting he was elected an honorary life member. The late Mr Benton was connected with the club for over 40 years.”
