PERSONAL. (Special to “Times-Age.”) . Mr H. L. Griffiths returned to Martinborough on Monday from a holiday in Australia. Mr R. A. Mitchell of Messrs Pain and Kershaw, Ltd., has returned to work after a few weeks’ sick leave. Mr W. J. Kitching, who has been relieving in Mr Mitchell’s absence, has returned to Wellington. Mrs Lundon and family will return to Martinborough during the weekend after spending six weeks in Wanganui. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Martinborough School Committee was held on Monday evening. There were present Messrs Brimble (in the chair), D. R. Matheson (treasurer), R. Lawrence, R. Burch, G. Cotter and B. Pryor (headmaster). 1 Accounts amounting to £l7 4s 6d were passed. The visiting committee reported that a load of metal was required at one of the gates and minor repairs were needed. The visiting committee for the ensuing month is Messrs Matheson and Lawrence. The headmaster reported the attendance as follows: —Primary roll, 211; average, 176.5. Secondary, roll 45; average 39.4. .The results of the primary teams entered in the South Wairarapa tournament last Saturday were very, good. The B team played off in the final and the C team won. Mr Pryor said that this excellent result was due to Mr T. Hardie’s fine coaching. It was decided to write to the Minister of Education asking him to approach the Department regarding a new classroom and conveniences for the secondary department.. It was decided to purchase a rock gas outfit for the science department. EUCHRE EVENING. The Radio Club held a euchre tournament last evening in the club rooms. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Grimstone 2; men, Mr J. Cowerthwaite 1, Mr T. Stumbles 2. MINIATURE RIFLES. A miniature rifle shooting match between the Greytown and Martinborough clubs, fired at Greytown last evening, resulted in a win for Martinborough. Details are: — Greytown.—R. Tilson 97, G.
