GREYTOWN

PERSONAL. (Special to “Times-Age.”) Mr B. Kiernan has been appointed secretary of the Greytown Foresters’ Lodge. W.E.A. MEETING. The Greytown branch of the Workers’ Education Association held its meeting in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Mr H. E. Webster was elected chairman for the year and Mr G. Burns re-elected secretary. It was decided to form a junior group and to introduce play reading. The course decided on for this year was: “International Issues.” ’ A start will be made next week. It was decided that the time of starting be 7.45 p.m. and closing 10 p.m. R.S.A. The Greytown branch of the R.S.A. met on Wednesday night, when further arrangements were made for the social to be held on August 17. It was reported that only two members were on sustenance and they were recommended to receive assistance from relief funds. It was reported that a Maori returned soldier had been buried in the cemetery near the Waiohine bridge. It was decided to investigate the matter further. LATE MR ROBAND. Mr Peter Nelson Roband, whose death was reported in yesterday’s issue, was born at Solvesborg, Sweden, 86 years ago, and came to New Zealand in 1875 as a seaman on the ship St Leonard’s. He soon afterwards came to the Wairarapa, and found employment on Mr J. Feast’s farm, at Kaiwaiwai. In 1882 he married Miss Eliza Walker, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Walker, of Greytown. He engaged in contracting and other • work in the district, and took up his permanent residence in Greytown about 18 years ago. He leaves a widow and a family of two sons, Leonard, of Lake Ferry, and Ernest Roband of Wellington, and two daughters, Mrs J. Abbott, of Lower Hutt, and Miss Dolly Roband, of Grey town. One son, Percy, predeceased him by 20 years. Mr Sven Roband, of Lower Hutt, is a brother. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
