Ducks on the March.

Entirely oblivious of passing traffic and unperturbed by the frost-covered ground, a small squadron of ducks made an unusual sight in Essex Street early this morning. Keeping strictly to the left of the road, the birds waddled complacently towards the town, for all the world like a group of human beings setting off on their day’s business. Trap-shooting. The 21-bird championship at the Dominion trap-shooting meeting at Leeston yesterday was won by L. C. Lemon, Ellesmere, the only competitor with a possible. E. Groome and R. Baker, each one down, tied for second, Groome winning the shoot-off at the sixth round. D. P. North, T. A. Clouston, J. F. Parkin, W. Telford, J. Thwaites, H. Grennell and R. S. Taylor scored 19 each. Seventy competed. Lyttelton As Air Terminal. Asserting that the facilities at Lyttelton for flying-boats were better than those at either Auckland or Wellington, Mr R. E. Cairns, at a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday, made a strong claim, for the establishment of an airport at the former place as part of the trans-Tasman service. On his motion, the board decided to bring under the notice of the Government through the Prime Minister representations it made in February regarding its claims to have an airport. Lyttelton was more suitable, as there were no tropical winds or high seas experienced in the harbour, and in addition the prevailing wind was from the east, an advantage for both landing and taking off, said Mr Cairns. He urged members to bring the matter before other local bodies, so that a combined case could be presented to the Government.
