PAHIATUA RACE BALL

NOVEL DECORATIVE SCHEME Flying heels and thudding hooves were cleverly suggested by the “cutouts” of racehorses running neck and neck and jumping the hurdles, when the Pahiatua Racing Club held its successful annual ball recently. Visitors from Palmerston North, Wellington, Wanganui, Marton, Masterton and Napier helped to swell the numbers who attended this year. Hundreds of coloured electric lights glowed from the ceiling, and shone among numbers of coloured flags and balloons. An ingenious futuristic motif was used in the decoration scheme for the hay and sitting-out nooks, and had been effectively arranged by Mr Eric Mexted.

Numerous dinner and cocktail parties were held before the ball, where guests were welcomed by the president, Mr Kelly, and the committee consisting of Messrs Lett, Smith, and Lloyd. A delicious supper arranged by wives of the committee, was served during the night, and music for the dancing was supplied by two orchestras.

To the secretaries, Mr lan Taylqr and Mr Dave O'Brien, the bulk of the successful ball arrangements were due, and they received many congratulations for their work on this occasion.
