WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
GATHERING AT KAHUTARA. At the last meeting of the Kahutara Women’s Institute, held in the Kahutara Hall, Mrs L. McKenna presided over an excellent attendance. Mrs McKenna congratulated the members of the institute dramatic circle on the splendid concert which they organised in the local hall, and Mesdames Duffy and Playle replied on behalf of the circle. The hostesses for the afternoon, Mesdames Fuge and M. Wilson and Misses M. Harvey and L.. Hood had attractively decorated the tables, which were covered with green and gold tablecloths, with vases of gold and white jonquils. The competition for the best ironed shirt was won by Mrs Graham, with Mrs D. Wilson second and Mrs R. Welsh third. The best flower competition was won by Mrs Russell with a pansy, Miss Rendle second with daphne, and Mrs Welsh third with a rose. The junior competition for the best darned stocking was won by Miss Corlet, with Miss L. Hood second .and ' Miss O. Harvey third. Jock Harvey was the winner of the dainty baby’s frock which had been made and donated to the institute by Mrs R. Welsh. The dramatic circle’s concert of the previous week was a great success. As a result a sum of £ll will be added to the institute funds. A number of items were presented, including dances, plays, songs, and piano solos. The whole programme was arranged by Mrs T. Duffy, the circle producer, whose efforts in making the concert a success were outstanding. The performers were Mesdames Playlet Harvey, Chisholm, Duffy and Misses E. Chishohh, J. Fenwick, G. Welsh, N. Corlet, O. Harvey, E.. Hall, M. Harvey, L. .Hood, J. Hood, and Miss D. Chisholm' who acted as pianist. At the conclusion of'.the concert Mrs L. Me- ■ Kenna, president of the institute, pre- , sented Mrs Duffy with a dainty posy, ; and each of the other performers with an artistic shoulder spray as a token ; of the institute’s appreciation. .The : ladies of the. institute supplied supper to the audience and the entertainers, < and a pleasant evening concluded with 1 a dance until midnight. !
