WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (“Times-Age’’- Special.) Miss Hanlon presided over the monthly meeting of the local Institute. Owing to the boisterous weather there was only a fair attendance. Prior to the business of the meeting the president expressed the regret of the local Institute at the death of Mrs Crewe, of Pahiatua. As a mark of respect two minutes silence was observed. Mrs D. J. Mclntosh Senr., was presented by the president on behalf of the Institute with a silver serviette ring suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem for her valued services to the organisation and particularly in respect of the making of the birthday cake, which was favourably commented upon by members and visitors. Mrs Mclntosh suitably returned thanks. A competition for a handkerchief made out of a salt bag was won by Miss McKenzie, with Mrs H. Gaudin second. Mrs Priest was the winner of the musical parcel competition. Mrs McLelland led the community sing which was enjoyed by all. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Mclnlosh Junr., Sutton, and Miss McKenzie. Mrs Crosbie represented the branch at the recent Dominion Conference at Wellington. GOLF MATCH. The following are the details in connection with the golf match between Pirinoa and Featherston, the sectional results of which were previously published (Pirinoa players are mentioned first in each case): —Singles: B. McMaster lost to W. Rowles; S. Richards lost to W. Crawford; D. Tikao lost to H. Wehipuhana; G. Munro lost to K. Allen; D. Jones lost to G. O’Neale; T. Hume and R. Donald all square; M. McLeod beat W. Jeffery; J. Riwai beat H. McCarty; R. McDougall lost to L. Benton; J. Carter beat D. Carlyon; H. Carter beat J. Davis; K. Waiwera beat I. Donald; K. Charters and M. Benton all square. Pirinoa 61; Featherston 7£. Fourball: McMaster and Tikao halved with Rowles and Crawford; Tikao and Munro lost to Wehipahana and Allen; Jones and Hume lost Jo O’Neale and Donald; McLeod and Riwai beat Jeffery and McCarty; Carter and McDougall beat Carlyon and Benton; H. Carter and Waiwera beat Davis and I. Donald. Pirinoa 3J wins; Featherston 2>-. Ladies’ match: Miss Edgelow and Mrs Davis all square; Mrs Tikao lost to Mrs Stockly; Mrs, Carter and Miss M. Ruane all square; Mrs Bragg lost to Miss J. Ruane; Mrs Jones lost to Mrs McCarty. Pirinoa 1 win; Featherston 4.
The finals for the senior and junior championships of the local club will be played on Saturday. EUCHRE TOURNEY AND DANCE. A euchre and dance was held in the hall on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance. Mrs McKenzie won the ladies’ prize, Mrs Carter being second. In the men's section, C. Purchase won with R. Piripi second. The dance music was supplied by a local band. The proceeds are being devoted towards the candidature of the local queen in connection with the forthcoming Green and Gold Ball. PERSONALS. Mr McDonald, of Hawke’s Bay, has taken over the managership of the Tauanui Estate, vice Mr McClelland, who has resigned. The death has occurred at Rapaki, Lyttelton, of Mr Hape Pohatu, who for a lengthy period was a resident of this district. Mrs T. Te Maari is visiting relatives in Wanganui.’
