.MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was held last evening in the club room, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presiding over a satisfactory attendance. A notable visitor to the club was Mr C. R. S. Barrett, president of the Christchurch Esperanto Society, who was extended a cordial welcome. Presenting greetings of the Lower Hutt Club, the secretary, Mr W. H. King, announced that an Esperanto class has been recently formed among the Boy Scouts of that district. Since the previous week, correspondence in Esperanto from Russia and Sweden and a journal from Brazil had been received. The president commented on the Press reports about the 30th Universal Esperanto Congress which opened in ' London on July 30 and will continue in session until August 6. and in which 1700 delegates from 30 countries are participating. Esperanto is the sole language of the congress and will be used for various purposes throughout the eight days of the international gathering. As in the past, the congress will provide ample evidence that language barriers do not exist for Esperantists and that full understanding is practicable throughout the great combination of nations by means of the international, auxiliary language. Following the usual weekly tuition period, Mr Dewar recited the poem, “Ho! Mia Kor,” written by the late Dr. Zamenhof. Mr Barrett contributed in Esperanto an excerpt from “Hamlet,” and Mr King rendered the poem, “Nova Kanto.” 1.
