CHESS MATCH
N.Z. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. ’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Play in the 20-a-side telegraphic match between the Otago and Wellington Chess Clubs was concluded on Saturday evening. Satisfactory progress was made at the various boards, but only five games have been actually completed. Meritorious wins were scored by Messrs A. H. Gilby (Wellington) and F. H. R. Neville (Otago), while three games were t drawn —at board 1, E. H. Severne J v. J. B. Dunlop J; at board 2, A. W. Gyles J v. W. Lang J; and at board 13, J. Otto J v. E. F. Evans J. The score is, therefore, now 2J-all. It is hoped to dispose of several of the 15 unfinished games by negotiations which are to be opened up during the present week. Any positions that the two executives cannot agree about will require to be sent to the Auckland members of the New Zealand adjudication board for decision. Some of these positions are very complicated and will require a lot of analysis. It is, however, safe to say that a very close finish may be looked for in this Bledisloe Cup final.
