MINIATURE RIFLES
WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. WAIRARAPA COMPETITORS SUCCESSFUL. The meeting to decide the women's championships for 1938 was conducted by the Wellington Miniature Rifle Association on the Winter Show range tin Saturday. ■ Fifty-eight competitors, including two from Featherston (Misses Nix and Brash), and Mrs King (Masterton), took part, and the A grade championship was won by Mrs F. Davies, of the Hutt Valley ladies’ club, who scored 68, 69 and 66 in the three matches, her aggregate of 203 being two points better than that of the runner-up, Miss M. Calder (Riverbank).
A feature of the shooting was the success of Miss Paddy Nix, an 18-year-old first-year competition from Featherston, who was runner-up for the B grade championship, runner-up for the C grade championship, and winner of the beginners’ match. So well did she and her Featherston clubmate shoot, that they took second place to the Petone women’s club in the competition for the club obtaining the highest number of points at the meeting. Miss Nix is a daughter of Mr C. J. Nix, Featherston, winner of the 'King’s prize at Trentham last year. Miss Nix was runner-up with 131 in the C grade championship, the winner Miss Harrington (Brooklyn) scoring 152. Miss Nix won the Beginners’ Match and two other competitions. Mrs King tied for second place in one A match being a point behind the winner. Miss J. Brash was also second in this competition.
