GREYTOWN

CENTENARY FUND. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large congregation at St Luke's Church, Greytown, on Sunday morning, when. His Lordship, the Bishop of Wellington, launched his appeal in the Wairarapa for the Bishop’s Fighting Fund and the Cathedral Fund. In the course of his address the Bishop spoke of the wonderful response that was already forthcoming. All denominations were giving their help which was the wonderful aspect of the matter. He felt the time had come for the capital city of the Dominion to have a cathedral, and from the splendid start already made he knew that he had the whole province behind him; in fact the whole Dominion was interested. He had been particularly struck when travelling through New Zealand with the great number of churches that had been built by the early pioneers. During his remarks he stated that he had already over £3OO promised from Greytown. With the fighting fund it was intended to assist the smaller parishes in the province. At the close of the service the Bishop’s helpers were enrolled. NO GOLF CONTESTS. Owing to the bad weather conditions no games were played on the Greytown links over the weekend. The championships will commence next week. TABLE TENNIS. The winners of the badges for the week at the Methodist Club were:— Mr M. Hobson and Miss N. Keltie. PERSONAL. Mr A. Harp, of the Greytown W.F.C.A. staff, has received notice of his transfer to Carterton. VITAL STATISTICS. The vital statistics for Greytown for July were: —Births 4, marriage 0, deaths 1.
