ELUSIVE FISH
CAPTURE BY HAIR NETS. In an attempt to capture the elusive dragon fish, nets will be used that have been meshed with women’s hair. Mr H. Vinall, overseer of the London Zoo aquarium, and his assistants, who are organising an expedition to the Red Sea, have spent hours making these nets invisible to the rainbowhued dragon fish, which defy capture in ordinary nets. “We shall be setting off in June, and the expedition will last more than two months,” Mr Vinall said recently. “For several weeks I have been making a special tank to capture tiny coral fish. It is 12feet long. sft wide and 3ft Bin deep. We plan to float it on a coral reef, and once the fish enter it they will not be able to escape.
“Our main difficulty is the transport of these delicate fish. They live in a temperature of about 90 to 95 degrees, and we have to arrange to have a constant supply of water at this temperature during the voyage back.”
