NEED OF COOPERATION
MR MACKENZIE KING’S APPEAL. ADDRESS TO CANADIAN CORPS. I TORONTO, July 30. Addressing a large gathering of members of the Canadian Corps at a veterans’ reunion today, the Prime Minister, Mr W. L. Mackenzie-King, stated that the country sadly needed the. co-operative self-sacrificing spirit of war time to offset the factors spreading dissension. Co-operation, not conflict, was the keynote—co-operation in the country, co-operation in the Empire, and co-op-eration in the world, “We must attempt to reach enduring peace by peaceful means,” said the Premier. “But that does not mean that we might never again be called upon to risk all for the preservation of our sacred heritage.” FREEDOM OF ACTION. DEMANDED BY CANADIAN SOCIALISTS. EDMONTON, July 30. The Canadian Commonwealth Federation (Socialist Party), Convention has adopted a resolution endorsing freedom of action by Canada in the event of war involving the Empire, with the right to refuse to participate. Canada is urged to free herself from her present commitments to Britain.
