PERSONAL ITEMS

Mrs G. S. Napier, of Alfredton, has been on a visit to Masterton. Mrs John Stuart, of Marton, was a week-end visitor to Masterton. Mrs J. Loughlin was a Wellington visitor to Masterton over the weekend. Miss Stanton, New Plymouth, is at present a guest of Mrs Rue, Renall Street. Mrs B. A. Kelly has returned to Pahiatua after a holiday spent in Napier. Miss Coyla Cairns, of Palmerston North, and formerly of Masterton, spent the week-end in Masterton. Mrs and Miss A. Reynolds, of Renall Street, Masterton, are at present the guests of Mrs F. M. Reynolds, The Terrace, Lansdowne. Miss Kathleen Hill, of the nursing staff at Porirua, has returned to work after a month’s holiday with her parents at Martinborough. Visitors to Masterton for the BurtBlatchford wedding were Mrs E. Trask (Paraparaumu), Mr and Mrs B. Tonkins (Wellington), Mr and Mrs W. Allen (Feilding), Mr and Mrs S. E. Petersen (Levin). Mrs Laird Meredith was hostess recently at a delightful party held at her home, “Te Maire,” Masterton. The object of the party was to collect contributions for the bazaar that the parishioners of Tinui Anglican 'Church intend to hold in September. There were 30 guests present, and as each one brought a contribution of trolly covers, tea-cosies, or novelties, there were many gifts for the intended work-stall. A judging competition of the articles voted a first prize for cosy-cover to Mrs N. Groves; trolly cover, Mrs Mitchell; and best novelty, Mrs John Andrew. An amusing competiti.on was won by Miss Langdon. Mrs Meredith served a refreshing afternoon tea -during the afternoon. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement' is announced of Margaret Alice, eldest daughter of Mr and Mr A. H. Palmer, Solway, Masterton, to James Fisher, only son Of Mr and Mrs D. F. Thurston, Cole Street, Masterton. FEATHERSTON Mrs D. Bryan (Wellington) was the guest' of her sister, Mrs G. S. Sharp, for the week-end. Mr and Mrs Stephen Reed, Miramar, were the guests of Mr and Mrs Jack Davis for the week-end.
