CARTERTON

YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Young Farmers’ Club celebrated its third birthday in the band room. A large number of members and friends were present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing. . After supper, the club chairman, Mr S. Fisher, called on Mrs E. W. Allen, president of the Carterton Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, to light and blow out the candles on the cake, and then requested Mrs W. James, wife of the Wairarapa District President of the Young Farmers’ clubs, to cut the cake. On behalf of the club, Mr Fisher made a small presentation to Mrs Allen, who had made and iced the cake. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Lorna Rayner and Mr Alex. Deller, and the Monte Carlo by Miss Warrington and Mr Basil Neilson. The music was supplied by Mrs V. Ashton and Mr S. Te Tau. Messrs P. Swinn and B. Brassell were the M.C’s. COLD DAY. Yesterday was considered the coldest day of the year in Carterton, a slight fall of snow being experienced in the evening. It disappeared on the flats during the night. The Maungaraki Hills are covered and the snow is also well down on the foothills at Belvedere. JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS. The Hawke’s Bay junior football team is staying in Carterton during its visit to the Wairarapa.
