DISTANCE SWIMMING
FRENCHMAN ESTABLISHES NEW RECORD. VENICE (California), July 26. Paul Chotteau, the French swimmer, was taken ( from the water 11 miles from his goal after his failure to swim 58 miles from Santa Barbara Island to the mainland. Chotteau, however, established a new long distance record in open water of approximately 53 miles in one day, 21. hours, four minutes.
