ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE. (By “Three-Speed.”) for the Wairarapa Club’s two-man time trial held on Saturday, eight pairs faced the starter, leaving at twominute interval. K. Woollett and his partner, P. Mayes, rode well to gain first place. This is P. Mayes’s second race and riding with Woollett should prove beneficial to him. L. Green and J. McAliece also rode well to gain second place, equal with C. Dykes and his co-marker, W. Gay, both these riders doing exceptionally well. J. Brader and R. Killington are riding fairly well. The latter could do with a bit more training. R. Copp and E. Lefort were well back, in place this week. The latter apparently lacked sufficient training. B. Harmaij and D. Wishart combined very well together but the former was a bit fast for his partner. B. Dooling and G. Swain, who were the last to leave, did very well indeed. C. Gourlay and M. Graham 'occupied the bottom place in the event. I think it is a good idea for a club to hold two-man time trials at least once a month because putting the limit riders with the back markers will assist the younger riders to gain experience.' On the whole, the local riders are doing exceptionally well, although most of them should engage in more hard training. Exercises and skipping are good training.
