POPULAR WINTER SPORT
SKI-ING ON MT. HOLDSWORTH. TRAMPING CLUB ACTIVITIES. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Tramping Club held on Wednesday last, the inclusion of skiing as one of the club’s activities was keenly discussed among the enthusiastic members present. A suggestion that the club purchase skis for the use of members met with general approval and it is hoped that an influx of new members who wish to participate in this popular winter sport will support the club in taking this step. The ski-run is situated at the peak of Mt Holdsworth and although not generally known has been tried out by experienced skiiers and considered sufficient for the needs of the average skiier. The club trips of the past year were reviewed by the president, who said that he hoped that the coming year would bring better outings, if possible, and an increase in the number of those who enjoyed weekends out in the open, combined with plenty of healthy exercise and congenial company. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr S. Caley, who had resigned as secretary. He had carried out his duties very ably and the club is greatly indebted to him for his helpful suggestions. It was decided to open the new year with a tramp to the snow clad peak of Mt Holdsworth on Sunday next, where members will seize the opportunity to try out recently acquired skis. All members and others interested who intend to make the trip'or require information concerning the same are requested to get in touch with Mr B. lorns, Bunny Street, Masterton, or the secretary, Mr T. Jack, Public Trust Office, Masterton, as soon as possible.
