GERMAN ASSURANCES
AN INTERVIEW IN LONDON AMBASSADOR AND BRITISH PRIME MINISTER DENIAL OF MISLEADNG REPORTS (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 23. In view of the completely misleading reports circulated about the interview which the Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, had with.;the German Ambassador, Dr Von Dircksen, yesterday, it can be stated with authority that, in the course of friendly conversation, Dr Dircksen gave . a renewed assurance of Germany’s peaceful intentions and of the desire of his Government to see an amicable and satisfactory solution of the SudetenDeutsch question. Mr Chamberlain, on his side, gave Dr Dircksen certain assurances regarding the continued exercise by the British Government of its good offices in Prague. No concrete proposals were made on either side, nor was any new suggestion under discussion.
Following the recent mission to London of Captain Weidermann, Herr Hitler’s aide-de-camp, and his conversation with the Foreign Secretary, the German Ambassador, Dr von Dircksen, called on the Prime Minister on Friday morning before leaving for Germany, where he will see Herr Hitler and convey Mr Chamberlain’s view of the international situation.
