Japanese destroyers fired across the bows of the British steamer Leana and halted her 50 miles from Hong Kong. A boarding party demanded to inspect the steamer’s cargo, but Captain Green firmly declined to permit this and after a long argument, the Japanese withdrew and the steamer proceeded on her way unmolested.
