WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. GOOD FORM IN SATURDAY’S GAMES. A Grade. Stars I. 14 v. lona 3. W.H.S.O.G. 29 v. Stars 11. 7. Wairarapa College 21 v. Carterton 10. W.H.S.O.G. 11. 15 v. Wairarapa College B 12. B Grade. lona 26 v. Wairarapa College 11. 1. Carterton 19 v. Tech. O.G. 5. Dalefield 18 v. Hospital 16. Stars defaulted to Wairarapa College 111.

NOTES ON THE PLAY. The Stars v. lona match was a very good game, with quick triangular passing, running from one end of the court to the other. The Stars combined well with quick, short movements, each member doing her utmost. Their defence can be considered as one of the best three defences in the A grade. Outstanding play was shown by Monica Gadsby, which was a striking feature of the match. Herteam mate, A. Burgess, supported her well, and gave good interceptions. K. Mouat plays a better game in defence, and would be wise to play in this position always. This team has great determination to win, and this predominates their game. lona’s goals were a great disappointment, as they continuously let the team down. P. Hanley threw very wildly at times, and would do well to remember to stick to her short, quick passes. The centre third play in this team was quite good, showing good combination. In the match, W.H.S.O.G. v. Stars 11., the Old Girls owe their win to their superior team work, plus the accurate shooting of their forward, N. Cohen. Their defence was too strong for the Star forwards, who lack combination and work too far away from the goal. The Star centre did some good work, but the goals let them down time after time. M. Locke, in the Star defence, made some good interceptions. This team would do better if it were to practice short, snappy passes and positional play. The Wairarapa College v. Carterton game was a special one as a try-out for Carterton, who at present are in the B grade, but Carterton, to become A grade, will need to take their game a little more seriously and practise short snappy passes, without fumbling the ball. The College forwards played a very poor game, but the centres and defence were well up to their usual form. The W.H.S.O.G. 11. v. College B match was very evenly contested, with short, quick passing on both sides. In the Old Girls’ team, E. Stidolph did good work in the centre, while C. Shearer proved a sound defence for the College. The game, lona v. College 11., as shown by the score, was a very uneven one, the defence of the College team being very weak. The lona centres gave an exhibition of smart passing, and some very good work was done by M. Harrigan. In the goal third, C. Brady was a very great asset to the team. P. Hunter and D. Ranston gave good displays for the College team, but need the backing of the rest of the girls to bring their, game to a higher standard. In the Carterton v. Technical O.G. game, Carterton showed better combination than their opponents, but would improve their play by taking the game more seriously. Both teams would gain by more practice in handling the ball, thus eliminating so much fumbling.
