RADIO TELEPHONY
REDUCTION IN CHARGES TO AUSTRALIA (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 22. The Postmaster-General (the Hon F. Jones) today Announced a 33 J per cent reduction in the charge for radio telephone calls between New Zealand and Australia, and that the reduced charge would be brought into effect as from Monday next, July 25. The new rate is 10s per minute, with a minimum charge of £1 10s. The Minister stated that since the inception of the radio telephone service with Australia in November, 1930, a progressive increase had taken place in the number of calls handled, the total for the past year being 1448. Secrecy, equipment and improvements in the service, also the ease with which calls may be obtained from almost every, part of the Dominion have contributed largely towards the success of the service. The Minister expressed the hope that the present reduction would further encourage the growth of what is now a highly efficient service.
