WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT GLADSTONE. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Gladstone Women’s Institute held on Thursday. Before commencing the business of the meeting the president asked members to stand in silence in memory of the late president of the Bush-Wai-rarapa Federation, Mrs J. D. C. Crewe. Mrs Panapa was given a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray for making a beautiful Maori kit as the institute donation to the sale in aid of Dominion Federation funds, to be held at the annual general meeting in Wellington next week. For the donation of a waterproof cover for the banner, Mrs P. McLaren and Mrs S. Smith also received the thanks of the members. All present were keenly interested in a talk on her recent trip to England and Scotland, via Cape Horn, given by Mrs N. McKay. The competition results were as follows: —Soft toy—seniors, Mrs Jackson 1, Miss M. Mackay 2; juniors, Miss J. Palmer 1, Miss A. Bubb 2. 8100m — seniors, Mrs Wellwood 1, Mrs Cave 2; juniors, Miss N. Bubb 1, Miss J. Palmer 2.
