LADIES’ ASSOCIATION. MEETING AT CARTERTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) A general meeting of the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association was held at Carterton last Thursday at the .’esidence of Mr and Mrs Ticehurst. The chief item for discussion was the sending of a team to Gisborne to participate in the K cup tournament. It was decided that a team should be sent, and Mr G. Maloney was appointed manager with Mrs R. Foster as chaperone. Fifteen players would comprise the team. The selector was instructed to select the best 15 players to represent the province, such players to notify him within a week if they were available. Club members chosen should note that if they do not inform the selector that they are available, he will assume that they are not available. The secretary of each club was also to be instructed by the delegates to send forward the names of any other players who would be available. Arrangements have been made for the team to travel by bus, leaving on approximately August 25. The tentative commencing date of the tourney is August 27. It is estimated that £lO will cover each player’s expenses, this allowing fairly liberally for pocket expenses. Negotiations are now under way for arranging board. The association decided that every player should be compelled to board, and also to assist as far as possible from the association’s funds after art union results come to hand. The representative team chosen will be announced shortly. The association decided to fall into line with the men’s association and cancel all games for July 30 on the occasion of the Test match New Zealand v. India. The Kia Ora Club were given permission to visit Wellington to play College Old Girls on July 30. The secretary intimated that leave had been granted to extend the closing date of the art union for a month. Delegates are to ask secretaries of clubs to forward any art union money handed in as soon as possible. 'lt is the intention to make a comprehensive drive this month in order to dispose of all the tickets if possible.
