Education Board Elections.
Voting in the Wellington Education Board ward elections closes at 5 p.m. today, but in accordance with the terms of the Education Act, the voting papers will not be opened till seven days have elapsed. Members are elected for foui- years, and half the members of the board retire biennially. In the present election there are contests in three out of the six wards. In the Wellington urban ward, the sitting members, Messrs L. J. McDonald and J. J. Clark, are opposed by Messrs A. H. Carman, C. P. S. Boyer and G. B. Stephenson. Colonel T. W. McDonald, the sitting member for the Wairarapa ward, is opposed by Mr J. M. Nicholls, and there is also a straight-out contest in the Hutt-Horowhenua ward, where Mr P Robertson, the sitting member, is opposed by Mr W. J. T. Wiggs. In the Hutt-Petone urban area, Mr W. V. Dyer, present chairman of the board, was returned unoposed. Mr H. Duckworth was similarly returned for the Marlborough ward, and Mr W. R. Nicol for the Masterton urban ward.
