WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT PONGAROA. The Pongaroa Women’s Institute met at its monthly meeting in the Masonic Hall. Visitors were present from Weber, Opara and Rakanui. An invitation to attend its birthday party was extended by Alfredton Women’s Institute. Miss Humphries’ invitation for members to spend the afternoon there in order to hear her travel-talk was accepted. Three new members were enrolled. The motto was “Life is What We Make It,” and the roll-call, “Sing, say, or penny pay.” The monthly competitions resulted as follows: Article from locknit or silK stockings: Mrs Berry 1, Miss I. Clark 2. Shortbread: Miss Parker 1, Miss Kent 2. Recently two bridge parties were held to assist the Drama Circle’s finances, also a refreshment booth was provided at the England-Akitio hockey match. Members were thanked for their assistance at these functions. The hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames Meech, Mayman, Scott and Miss Johnston. Next month the Drama Circle will act the play it entered at the recent .festival.
