There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of,the Carterton Fire Brigade presided over- by Supt. T. Wakelin, at which the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Superintendent, R. P. Wakelin; Deputy-Superintendent, C. J. Churchhouse; Foreman, J. Finn; Secretary and Treasurer, M. F. King; Station Officer, R. Jackson; Motorman, H. M. Catt; Executive, H. Matson, A. . Clark, R. F. Taucher;, Hon. Auditor, Mr H. M. B. Trapp; Hon. Surgeon, Dr R. N. Campbell. METHODIST SOCIAL. • ’ Carterton Methodists are departing from their former custom in the Silver Tree Social to be held on Wednesday evening. The Church Hall has been decorated in an appropriate style and a real silver tree has been provided. Contributors to the programme will include Miss Ralph, Miss Jones and Mr A. Kay, all of Masterton, and Mrs Worsfold. LIBRARY COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Library Committee was held last evening at the library, when the following were present:—Messrs W. Vaughan (chairman), A. E. Hall, H. T. Leete, McPherson, Tretheway, R. A. Copeland, L. Clark, the Rev. H. White, Miss O. Wolters (secretary), and the librarian (Mrs Adair). It was decided that the Free Library be communicated with asking that a conference between the Wairarapa South County Council, Carterton Borough Council, the Library Committee and the Free Library be held to discuss various matters. It was resolved that £2 worth of books be purchased from the Wellington Library and £2O expended on new books. The librarian reported that there had been a keen demand for the old books that had been oSered for sale at 2d each. The receipts to date had amounted to £4 5s 6d. The subscriptions paid by members during the month totalled £ 8 7s, seven new subscribers had been enrolled and four had left. The number of subscribers was now 127. The credit balance at the bank was £59 13s. PERSONAL. Miss J. Edgecombe, of Waimarama, Hastings, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs P. A.. Johansen, High Street, has returned to Hawke's Bay.
