PACIFIC LINERS

SIR E. BEATTY’S MISSION TO LONDON INCREASE IN SHIPBUILDING COSTS FORMER PRICES DOUBLED By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 12.15 a.m.) LONDON. July 18. The Australian Associated Press says discussions have opened between Government officials and Sir E. Beatty (Canadian-Pacific Chairman) in connection with the two Pacific liners. An early statement is to be made, though it is uncertain whether it will be possible to carry out completely he earlier decisions. Delay has cost England and the Donjinions dearly. The original cost was about £2,500,000, but there has been such a rise in shipbuilding costs since the scheme was originally mooted that if the Governments decide to adhere to their intentions the figure will be in the neighbourhood of £5,000,000.
