TRADE DISCUSSIONS
AUSTRALIAN DELEGATION LEAVING LONDON NO PROSPECT OF COMPLETE AGREEMENT. PENDING ANGLO-AMERICAN PACT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 18. The Australian Associated Press political correspondent says the end of the Anglo-Australian trade discussions is in sight. It was accompanied by a last minute rush of Ministers, who met at the Dominions Office in the morning for nearly three hours, adjourning to attend the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, where, with their wives, they had afternoon tea with the Queen, resuming the discussions at 6 p.m. It is thought possible that there will be a further meeting tomorrow, to enable a conclusion of the Ministerial deliberations, before the delegates go to France, for the unveiling of the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, leaving officials to complete details. Sir Earle Page hopes to make a comprehensive statement before the weekend, pending which he is telegraphing drafts to Canberra. Sir Earle Page will embark at Glasgow for Canada on July 30. It was intimated this morning that while the outlook was slightly more satisfactory for Australia than it was last week, there were no prospects of the full agreement originally sought, for which reason a comprehensive revision must await an Anglo-American agreement and perhaps the American congressional elections, after which an Australian delegation will return to London.
