WICKETS FALL RAPIDLY NOTTINGHAM BAT WRETCHEDLY. GUNN THE SOLE EXCEPTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, July 18. The match between Australia and Nottingham was continued in fine weather,- after overnight rain., Wickets fell rapidly and 8 were down for 65, after 90 minutes play. The wicket, which had been covered, appeared to play faster than on Saturday. Waite, O’Reilly and Fleetwood-Smith all caused the batsmen anxiety. Harris lifted O’Reilly to cover for a simple catch. In O’Reilly’s next over Hardstaff played weakly forward to a leg break of teasing length and was clean bowled. Fleetwood-Smith got Knowles l.b.w. after a timorous innings. BATSMEN HELPLESS.

With the exception of Gunn the Notts batting was wretched. Heane never looked capable of staying, and Yates always was helpless against Fleetwood-Smith, who beat him three times before finally dismissing him. Except for Gunn’s crackling aggression and Voce’s resolute hitting the Nottingham batting was deplorable. Gunn and Voce carried the score from 7 wickets for 65 to 8 for 145 when Gunn was caught in the covers. He batted 110 minutes and gave a chanceless display, which included ten 4’s. The Notts innings closed after 155 minutes play. O’REIILY IN 'HOSTILE MOOD. O’Reilly was in his most hostile mood, and gave his best performance for some time. He continuously attacked and made the ball spin sharply. Fleetwood-Smith also bowled well. Australia opened at 2.50 p.m. Badcock and Brown started quietly but were not troubled by- the bowling. Badcock got into form, pulling and

driving splendidly. Brown made many beautiful drives. The pair had put on 121 for the first wicket when Badcock was dismissed, after having batted 110 minutes and hitting seven 4’s. Brown, who followed him ten minutes later, also hit seven boundaries. Bradman and Hassett continued to gather runs at a steady rate, and soon extracted any sting which might have remained in the bowling. Hassett, overtaking Bradman, scored a carefree 50 in an hour. The partnership was worth 100 runs after 65 minutes play. Bradman’s 50 took 80 minutes to compile. The scores are as follow: — ■ NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. First Innings. T.
