Olympic Cyclist Disqualified.
The Olympic cyclist, G. R. B. Giles, was disqualified for two years as from April 16, 1938, at a special meeting of the New Zealand Cycling Association, held in Wellington last night. The secretary of the association, Mr C. V. Aldridge, said last night that Giles was disqualified for breaking the bond he entered into with the Olympic Association when he was selected for the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. The bond provided that he would not turn professional for two years after his return to New Zealand. “When Giles broke his bond by competing as a professional at Otorohanga on April 16, 1938,” added Mr Aldridge, “he was fully aware of what he was doing. For this reason he has been disqualified.”
