HAWKE’S BAY HUNT
RACES AT HASTINGS. STEEPLES TO KIKIROKI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS, July 18. Fine, cold weather favoured the annual race meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club held on the Hastings track on Saturday. There were good fields, and a satisfactory attendance, so that the club was able to show a successful turnover by the end of the day. The Hunt Club Steeplechase drew ten starters, but only four finished, and the casualties included the favourite Power Chief. The winner turned up in an outsider, a local hunter, Kikiroki scoring easily. The totalisator handled £8553 10s, compared with £5696 last year, an increase of £2857 10s. Last year the meeting was held on a Monday, postponed from the previous Saturday. Results: — Otane Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles, about one mile and a half—l Lovelilt, 9.3 (A. E. Lord), 1; 4 Red Rufus, 10.0 (A. Jenkins) 2; 5 Agog, 9.2 (W. Tricklebank) 3. Also started: 3 Rapa Waiata, 2 Ika, 7 Coll, 6 Huntsman’s Chorus. Two lengths; four lengths. Huntsman’s Chorus was fourth. Time, 2.59.

Also started: 1 Hastings West, 11 Refulgent, 9 Hillside, 13 Panerna, 3 Sunny Lass, 10 Gal Laura, 8 Arabic, 6 Centrepoise, 'l2 Sha Lad, 7 Hagen. Neck; two lengths. Hastings West was fourth. Time, 1.13. Hawke’S Bay Hunt Club Steeplechase, about two miles and a half. — 8 Kikiroki, 9.7 (C. Carroll) 1; 3 Skerryvore, 10.2 (Mr W. H. Sutherland) 2; 7 Sabatini, 9.7 (W. J. McDowell) 3. Also started: 1 Gironde, 3 Iddo, 6 Seyfried, 8 Screen Star, 9 Manawatu, 7 Colenso, 10 Boat Song. Length and a quarter; three lengths. Gironde was fourth. Time, 2.18.
Soutra Hunters’ Flat Handicap, one mile and a quarter.—l Tres Sec, 12.0 (Mr,G. G. Beatson) 1; 4 Misurina, 11.9 (Mr N. A. Cowie) 2; 6 Passion Fruit, 12.13 (Mr L. C. Breakwell) 3. Also started: 3 Salon, 5 Kohika, 2 Princess Isabel. Three-quarters of a length; length. Salon was fourth. Time, 2.22 2-5.
