THE REGENT.
“MARIE WALEWSKA.” Greta Garbo reaches the greatest heights of her acting career in “Marie Walewska,” which will be shown at the Regent Theatre tonight, and in which she is co-starred for the first time with Charles Boyer in a memorable portrayal of the role of Napoleon Bonaparte. Here is acting of a new high order. As the young Polish Countess, Marie Walewska, who encourages the infatuation of Napoleon to further the interests of her own country but ultimately falls in love with him herself, Greta Garbo once again stands out as one of the most distinguished actresses on the screen today. Boyer, likewise, wins fresh laurels in the role of Napoleon. Among historic characters represented are the Due de Talleyrand, played by Reginald Owen, Alan Marshal’s Captain D’Ornano, Count Walewska, played by Henry Stephenson, Napoleon’s mother, enacted by Dame May Whitty, and Prince Poinatowski, played by C. Henry Gordon. Splendid supports include the latest Air Mail News, a Pete Smith Oddity, and a technicolour tour of Austria with an exceptional musical background.
