CENTRAL SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held on Thursday last, Mr J. E. MeV. Calwell presiding and there being a full attendance of members. The Headmaster submitted a very satisfactory report of attendance which has slightly increased recently, the numbers being.'Main School 531; East School 76; Total 607. Owing to the prevalence of colds, etc, there has been a little falling off during the past fortnight. The attendance of the Main School was 83 per cent and at the East School 66 per cent. The half-yearly examination showed highly satisfactory progress. Various requirements of material were authorised to be procured. A deputation from the Masterton East School attended and discussed a proposal that- the School be converted into a full school, requesting the support thereto of the Committee. The matter was considered and it was decided that it be held over for further consideration pending the supply by the East School Association of figures regarding the number of children likely to attend that School if so converted. .The Masterton Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural ■ Club requested that a delegate be appointed to the committee of the Cliub. —It was decided that the Committee could not see its .way to 'accede to the request. The Secretary was directed to apply to the Education Board for a supply of trees and plants for the celebration of Arbor Day. The Trust Lands Trustees advise that a capitation grant of £4O had been made to the school and £7 10s forthe museum for the current year. The Secretary was directed to express the sincere appreciation of the Committee in connection therewith. Mr Braggins was deputed to procure requisite gravel for the track to the boys’ bicycle shed. * Messrs Newman, Nicol and Gibbs were appointed visiting members for the ensuing month.
