BEACHES SWEPT
HUGE WAVES IN LAKE MICHIGAN AT LEAST FIVE PERSONS DROWNED TERRIFYING PHENOMENON HOLLAND (Michigan), July 14. At least five persons were drowned and an undetermined number injured when a series of huge waves, described as eight to 10 feet high, swept in over the beaches from Lake Michigan today. Terrified swimmers screamed as they ran while several fishermen were swept off the piers. Coastguards rescued many from danger. The dead include two women.
