FARMERS AND MANUFACTURERS PROPOSALS FOR JOINT ACTION (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Representatives of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met representatives of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation yesterday morning. Reporting to the Farmers’ Union conference later, the president, Mr W. W. Mulholland, said that it had been found that the two organisations were in’ close agreement on certain problems, especially those affecting costs in industry, including agriculture, and the danger, to private enterprise to which certain developments seemed to be leading. “In my opinion it is essential to the welfare of the farming industry that we try to work with others where their interests lie parallel to ours, not for a moment, however, conceding any of our principles or expecting them to sacrifice theirs,” said Mr Mulholland. “Perhaps it is something new to you that we can find common ground, but the piling of costs on costs has caused manufacturers to realise that it is impossible to rectify the position merely by raising prices.” On the suggestion of Mr Mulholland, it was decided to appoint a committee to take joint action with the manufacturers where desirable.
