MAGISTRATE’S COURT
FORTNIGHTLY MASTERTON SITTING. POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. The following police and by-law cases were dealt with by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., at yesterday’s fortnightly sitting of the Mastertori Magistrate’s Court:— On a charge of negligently driving a motor vehicle on a public highway, J. H. Munn was convicted and fined £3 and costs 13s. For operating an unregistered motor vehicle Noel Wallace was convicted and fined £2 and costs 10s and for driving without being the holder of a driver’s licence he was fined £1 and costs 10s. Driving a motor-car without being the holder of a driver’s licence cost D. Vibert a fine of 10s and 10s costs. T. W. Michell and J. V. Whall were fined £1 and 10s costs and 5s and 10s respectively for driving motor vehicles without a warrant of fitness. Whall, H. W. Robinson and H. M. A. Major were each fined 5s and 10s costs for parking vehicles other than parallel to the kerb. For parking a motor vehicle within six feet of a fire plug A. H. Tarrant was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs. W. Falconer was convicted and fined £3 and costs 10s for failing to keep time and wages books in respect of two employees. For being in the possession of an apparatus capable of receiving wireless telegraph communication, P. Doyle was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs. Edward Ahren was fined 10s and 10s costs, R. Costello 5s and lOscosts, C. R. Rogers 10s and 10s costs, W. Burns 15s and 10s costs, R. Campbell 15s and 10s costs, W. J. Cottle 15s and 10s costs, Mrs J. D, Donald £1 and 10s costs, Miss E. M. Evans 10s and 10s costs, O. R. Fairbrothei’ 15s and 10s costs, Mrs C. Larsen 15s and 10s costs, N. G. McDonald 10s and 10s costs, C. H. Rae, 15s and 10s costs, W. H. Snowsill 15s and 10s costs, R. H. Beetham 10s costs, M. S. Martin £1 and 10s costs, for failing to produce warrants of fitness.
For operating motor vehicles without being the holders of drivers’ licences, C. R. Rogers was fined £1 and 10s costs, T. Newland 10s and 10s costs, J. S. Sewell, 15s and 10s costs, R. H. Beetham 10s costs, M. S. Martin 10s and 10s costs, C. K. Clarke 5s and 10s costs, J. Greig 10s and 10s costs, H. Haycock 10s tfnd 10s costs, W. E. Herbert 5s and 10s costs, I. S. Moody 10s and 10s costs, C. A. Shirley 10s and 10s costs, and Mrs A. Thompson 10s and 10s costs.
Riding 1 bicycles without lights costs R. x Rollo Iss and 10s costs and R. C. Wyeth 10s and 10s costs.
For driving a motor-car at a speed exceeding 30 miles an hour, J. S. McKenzie was fined £3 and 10s costs.
CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil claims: —G. Gardner and Sons v. R. Harris, claim £3 14s lOd, costs £1 3s 6d; Wright Stephenson and Co. v. A. W. Robinson, claim £lO 12s 9d, costs £2 18s; K. A. Gunn v.. W. S. Shirtcliffe, claim £6, costs £1 12s 6d; W.F.C.A. Ltd. v. B. M. Page, claim £4 2s lOd, costs £1 13s 6d; Masterton Borough Council v. A. Jones, claim £3O 16s lOd, costs £4 Is 6d.
