Cooper, of Rongomai, has returned after a visit to England. Mrs L. Ferne, of Alfredton, is visiting the South Island. Mrs D. Brooks, of Bunny Street, Masterton, is visiting Wellington. Miss Rita Elliott, Colombo Road, left today on a visit to Australia. Miss Nelson, Masterton, was a recent visitor to The Hermitage, Mt Cook. Nurse M. Cummings, of Tokanui, is the guest of Mrs H. Keisenberg, Masterton. Mrs R. Wright, Church Street, Masterton, is the guest of Mrs Anderso'h, Karori. Miss P. Berry, of Pongaroa, who has been visiting friends at Makuri, has returned home. Mrs J. Spring, of Nireaha, who has been on holiday in the north, has returned home. Mrs C. Schnell has returned to Rongomai after a visit to Ashhurst, where she was the guest of Mrs Seymour Schnell. The friends of Mrs A. Madsen will be pleased to hear that she is progressing favourably after undergoing an operation in the Tararua Private Hospital. Mrs Donald James, Rangitumau, Masterton, is a visitor to Wellington for the annual conference of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. To commemorate the graduation at Auckland in 1877 of the late Mrs Evans, formerly Miss Kate Milligan Edger, who was the first woman in the British Empire to receive a university degree, an oak door has been placed near the women’s common-room in Auckland University College. An inscription recording' Miss Edger’s achievement is affixed to The door. After her graduation, Miss Edger left Auckland tp take up an important scholastic appointment in Canterbury, and became one of the pioneers of higher education for women in New Zealand. A cheery afternoon party in honour of Miss Eila Toogood, whose wedding will take place at the end of this .month, was given at their home, *‘Te Maire,” Masterton, recently, by Mrs Laird Meredith and her daughter, Miss Sheila Meredith. The drawing-room looked cosy with glowing fires and gay spring flowers. Mrs Meredith received her guests wearing a navy blue satin frock, and Miss Meredith wore grey tweed 'trimmed with astrakhan. Those present were Mesdames E. Toogood, G. Groves, H. Morrison, Carmen, N. Groves, F. Bennett, H. Groves, James Andrew, John Andrew, R. Pilmer, E. Maunsell, Moodie, Douglas, Holder, J. Dalziell, French and Horner, and Misses Nancy and Muriel Morrison, Ross, J. Groves, Betty and Jean Laing, Elizabeth Toogood, H. Anderson, Sybil Mpnkton, Joyce Moodie, J. Innes and others.
CARTERTON
Miss Goodall has been appointed to the position of Plunket Nurse in place of Mrs Stevenson, who has veen transferred to Hawera. Miss Goodall came to Carterton from Invercargill and prior to this was on the Nursing Staff of the Masterton Public Hospital for 4j years. The marriage of Miss Florence Bliss and Mr W. Ashwood is to take place at St Mark’s Church on Saturday. Parkvale residents honoured the prospective bride and bridegroom by entertaining them at a parcel evening in the Parkvale Hall on Tuesday evening. The function took the form of dancing, etc, and a very large number of visitors were present from Martinborough to as far north as Nireaha. There was a very large array of handsome presents. Mr A. Elkins spoke on behalf of Miss Bliss, and Mr Ashwood suitably replied.

' Mrs F. J. Staples is on a visit to Pongaroa. Mrs J. T. Holland is on a visit to Wellington. Mrs Algar Williams, synod representative, is attending the synod at Wellington. Mrs S. W. Booth is to take up her residence in Temuka where Mr Booth has received an appointment.

Miss U. Riwai, ChristcKurch, is staying with Mr and Mrs J. Riwai, Kohunui. Mrs W. T. Hume and Miss O. West were among the recent visitors to Wellington. MAURICEVILLE Miss D. Trass has returned from a holiday spent in Waipawa. Mrs E. Dagg and Miss E. Dagg are attending the Women’s Division Conference in Wellington as local delegates.
